Description: Known as The Good Luck Bird, Sparrow Finch, and the White Java Rice Finch, it originates from Asia, but has since been introduced into many locations. In captivity, it is gregarious and long-lived. They are calm but intimidating due to their stature, they are approximately 5-6″ from beak to tip of tail, making them suitable with the more assertive finches. They were considered pests to the rice fields, hence their scientific name. DNA testing is available to ensure gender if desired for an additional fee.

DNA Testing:
If there is no gender option listed for a bird on our website, that particular species is ‘monomorphic’, which means we’re unable to determine gender without purchasing DNA testing. DNA testing is an additional $149 per bird to guarantee preferred gender. DNA testing may add an additional 3-6 plus weeks to estimated delivery time to allow for gender results. See our FAQs for more info.
